STANFORD, Calif. -
Stanford junior attack Lauren Schmidt was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse player of the week for her play during a split of games against New York teams last week.
Schmidt totaled five goals on only nine shots, and had two assists as Stanford beat Albany and lost to No. 3 Syracuse last week as the Cardinal stepped up in schedule strength.
Schmidt tied for team-high goal-scoring honors in a 15-10 victory over Albany on Wednesday with three. She also had two assists, four caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Though Stanford lost on Friday to Syracuse, 15-10, Schmidt scored two goals in a span of 1:40 to begin a rally from a 4-0 deficit that tied the score at 8-8 by halftime.
Schmidt is tied for the team lead in scoring with 14 points (eight goals, six assists) and is back to the form she showed as a freshman, when she started every game and earned all-conference honors. She also was one of the youngest players invited to try out for the U.S. Elite and Developmental teams.
