Stanford earned the first-ever Mountain Pacific Lacrosse League Championship today by handing California a 16-7 loss at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley. Stanford's freshmen took control of the offense this afternoon with Julia Calzonetti notching four goals and Nina Pantano and Kelsey Twist tabbing three goals apiece.
California opened up with a goal 25 seconds into the game, but Stanford rebounded with four goals to take a three-point lead. The Cardinal closed out the first half with six more goals for a 10-4 margin at halftime. Stanford then outscored the Bears 6-3 in the second half to earn the inaugural MPLL Championship.
Cardinal goalkeeper Virginia Solomon notched 11 saves on the day as the Cardinal took 33 shots.
Stanford ends its season with an 11-7 record, and a perfect conference record at 10-0.
