Hi all!
Another week has passed, along with the monotony of daily schedules, classes and weekly problem sets, but it was anything but monotony in the Cardinal gym this week. Progressions were made daily and we have once again come out stronger and better than the week before.
Tradition has it that the SWG team takes one week “out of the gym” on a hard conditioning/light gymnastics week to get some good ‘ol cross training in. We didn’t take a whole week this year, but in honor of tradition, spent Thursday and Friday doing some alternate activities.
The week started out awesome in the gym. Several of us are getting new floor routines and those have really started to come along, bringing a new excitement and tone to the gym. We really pushed the limits on conditioning and narrowed our focus gymnastically, doing less numbers but doing them efficiently and well. Additionally, we are continuing to learn more about each other and our individual training habits and have been able to help each other out more.
Thursday was our first day out of the gym and the afternoon was spent at Half Moon Bay on the beach! Yes, it was paradise…amazing weather, perfect waves, the sand in your toes, and then—the conditioning began. The coaches had a pretty rigorous workout session, but we all worked hard and made it through with flying colors. The highlight of the afternoon would have to be the football game we played at the end…wow, talk about some entertainment. I must say I’m proud to be on the winning team, made possible only by Tabitha Yim’s amazing catching ability!
On Friday, we walked what is known as “The Dish” on campus, which is about a 3.5 mile hike with some great views. Again, the weather proved gorgeous and we had some great team bonding time. We finished up the afternoon with a challenging weights workout with our strength coach, concluding the week on a high note.
Words could never succeed in relaying the SWG experience right now, but I hope this gives you a glimpse of what we’ve been up to and what we’re working for. Be sure to check back in next week…who knows what may unfold!
GO CARD!
