Oct. 20
Hey SWG Fans,
Well this past week SWG did not spend much time in the gym. Instead, we had what is called "Cross-training Week". Once a year during preseason we have a week where we take a mental break from gymnastics and go out and play.
On Monday we spent the first hour in the pool attempting to play a game of water polo! It was certainly a sight to see, but we had a lot fun and it sparked our competitive fire. I am pretty sure we all have a new respect for the water polo players. Next we played an intense game of waterjug baseball (basically it's the same rules as baseball except our bat is a large waterjug) and then moved on to an upperclassmen vs. underclassmen dodgeball game. The winner of that game should remain unknown!! We topped off Monday's practice with a yoga session led by Kristen, which is not as easy as it looks.
On Wednesday we spent most of the day going around campus taking team pictures and then finished practice with a tough conditioning list, which we all blew through without hesitation.
The beginning of Thursday's practice was spent walking the dish. We walked in a single file line and the person leading the way passed a block of foam back. Once the last person in line received the block of foam they had to sprint up to the front of the line and then start the process over. We had a great time and also got some sun!!
We finished off the week with an organized practice on Friday. Most of the time was spent working on basics, but doing everything with perfect execution and focus. Even though we were tired and sore from the week our practice was productive and everyone felt mentally refreshed! This weekend we have off, which will be a great time to study and catch up on rest since the midterm season has quickly approached.
Thanks again for your support of SWG and please check in again next week!
- Nikki
