The last week leading up to our first day of school was an eventful one. On Tuesday the froshies began New Student Orientation or what should be called "the most jam-packed week of social networking ever." They met their roommates and bonded with their follow freshmen over countless activities from fountain hopping to book discussions. If that doesn't sound exciting enough, we even started doing real gymnastics in the gym! I felt like a little kid as I stood on floor with my jaw dropped watching my teammates perform. After being around this sport for 18 years, it sure does take a lot to impress me; but within 15 minutes of starting practice, SWG had done just that. Nicole Pechanec a.k.a. "Peach" did a skill I did not even know existed! Heather, too, showed us all her knew release move on bars and disproved the saying that you can't teach an old dog new tricks :.
On Thursday we had the privilege of running through the fitness test again and we annihilated it! We were pretty sore from the previous days of conditioning, but we did even better this time than the week before. It was really encouraging to pull together as a team and accomplish something. I have to give a shout out to Blair for her mad conditioning skills!
On Friday we welcomed four recruits to campus and true SWG fashion - Spirit Day. If this day is any indication of how what our meets will be like, then we are in for an awesome season. I don't know if it was the spray-painted Seniors, the "N'SWG" Freshmen, or the spontaneous dance party we had in our locker room, but something about this year's Spirit Day got me really pumped for the rest of the year. The whole weekend built from there with a win from the football team and an opportunity to watch Carly perform in front of thousands of fans at the 2008 Tour of Gymnastics Superstars. She performed a beam routine to our team's signature song "Suddenly I See" (A-R-D!) as we cheered her on in the stands. Great job CJ!
As a team we are really excited not only for the upcoming season but for every day we get to spend together doing the sport we love. Stop by next week for an update on SWG!
Peace out cub scout!
