STANFORD, Calif. - Six Stanford gymnasts were named Scholastic All-Americans this week, as selected by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women.

The total brings Stanford's all-time list to 53.

The six Cardinal honored were: senior human biology major Alyssa Brown (3.61 cumulative grade-point average), senior communication major Jenny Peter (3.62), junior human biology major Shona Morgan (3.91), sophomore economics major Amanda Spinner (3.51), and freshmen Samantha Shapiro (3.64) and Rebecca Wing (3.69).

Of the six, four also earned All-America honors in competition, including first-team All-Americans Shapiro and Spinner. Shapiro was the NCAA runner-up on the uneven bars and Spinner was fourth on the balance beam.

This was the fourth such honor for Peter, who becomes only the sixth Stanford gymnast named to the Scholastic All-America team all four years.

This is the second such honor for Morgan, a 2008 Olympian from Australia, and Spinner.

Stanford, which finished fourth in the nation last season, also was honored as a Scholastic All-America team, by virtue of its 3.41 combined GPA.
