Complete Pac-10 All-Academic team in PDF Format
Stanford senior captain Danielle Ikoma was named to the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic first team and was one of six Cardinal women's gymnasts to receive all-conference recognition.
All three senior captains were among the Stanford gymnasts so honored, with Ikoma, a biology major with a 3.47 cumulative grade-point average, the only to receive first-team honors. Fellow seniors Shelley Alexander and Allyse Ishino received second-team honors.
Nicole Pechanec, a junior, also was named to the second team. And sophomores Nicole Dayton and Ashley Morgan received honorable mention honors.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.
Each Pac-10 institution nominates one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-10 staff members at the conclusion of each sport's regular season. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in the voting for the award.
For Ikoma, the all-academic honor is the second of her collegiate career, having earned second-team honors last season. For Ishino, it was her third consecutive honor. It was the second for Alexander and Pechanec, and the first for Dayton and Morgan.
