Women's Golf Signs San Antonio Standout

November 11, 1998

STANFORD, Calif. - The tenth-ranked Cardinal women's golf team received a national letter of intent from Winston Churchill High's Kim Rowton, head coach Caroline O'Connor announced Wednesday.

Currently ranked No. 5 in the Golfweek/Titleist Amateur Girls Rankings, San Antonio's Rowton is a three-time Rolex/Polo All-American while competing in American Junior Golf Association events and has been a member of two Cannon-Cup teams.

"We are extremely please and excited about Kim's decision to attend Stanford," O'Connor said. "She brings a tremendous amount of national and international experience to our program. I believe that her presence on our team will make an immediate impact in our tournament play, national exposure and quest for a national title."

Rowton lighted up the junior golf circuit this summer, winning four consecutive tournaments in June. She captured individual titles at the AJGA's Freeport/McDermott Junior Classic, the AJGA's Justin Leonard Team Challenge, the AJGA's Texace San Antonio Shootout and the Texas-Oklahoma Junior Classic.

Rowton was also selected to represent the United States as a member of the 1997 Junior Ryder Cup team which played in Spain. In 1996, she placed second in the Japan Junior World Cup.

At Churchill High, Rowton carries a 4.0 GPA and has received scholar-athlete awards. She is also the 1996 Texas State High School Individual Champion. Her team is the defending three-time Texas State High School Team Champions.
