Sept. 27, 2012

Stanford senior Sally Watson is representing her native Scotland in the 2012 Women's World Amateur Team Championship in Antaya, Turkey. The four-day event includes daily rounds on one of Gloria Golf Club's two courses for a 72-hole stroke play event spanning September 27-30.

Watson, an honorable mention All-Pac-12 and first-team All-Pac-12 All-Academic selection in 2012, will be providing updates for gostanford.com throughout the event.

ANTAYA, Turkey - Last night we had the opening ceremony which is always special. They introduced all 53 countries that are competing while a military band with a tradition dating back to the Ottoman Empire played music.

Each country raised their own flag as the band continued to play. I must say, it is always a very proud moment to see your flag being raised and knowing that you are playing for not just yourself but for your country!

This morning was the first round of competition, and my team, the Scottish national team, was off early playing alongside the Peruvian and Norweigan teams. Unfortunately my teammates and I did not play as well as we would have liked but we learned a lot and are excited to go out tomorrow and see if we can climb our way back up the leaderboard.

After we had done some post-round practice, we came back to the hotel and relaxed by the sea. Overall I would say it was a pretty great day. We played golf in the morning and then sat on the beach in the afternoon, and it doesn't get too much better than that!
