FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Stanford's women's golf team is tied for sixth after the first round of the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt University. The Cardinal is +14 (302), eight strokes behind first-place Texas.
"Today was a solid start to the season," said Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf Anne Walker. We left quite a few shots out there and it shows in our score but not in our place within the field, which is what counts. We know that we're within striking distance of Texas, and the goal tomorrow is to stay close enough to contend on Sunday."
Lauren Kim is tied for fourth after an opening round 72, finishing at even par. Kim birdied the seventh and ninth holes in her first round at the collegiate level.
"Lauren was fantastic today," said Walker. "She stuck with her plan and remained confident and steady with her attitude; a great combination for low scores."
Fellow freshman Mariah Stackhouse fired an opening round 75 (+3), making birdie on the second and ninth hole to finish tied for 18th.
Mariko Tumangan carded an opening round 76 (+4), good for a share of 28th.
Kristina Wong finished seven-over, after shooting 79 and is tied for 54th.
Marissa Mar shot an 81 (+9) and is tied for 69th.
Play continues through Sunday, with live scoring available here.
