Stanford women's golf coach Caroline O'Connor was named NGCA West Regional Coach of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association.
O'Connor concluded her sixth season at the helm of the program, finishing in the top 10 nationally every year. She helped lead the Cardinal to its best ever finish at the NCCA Championships in 1999-2000 (second place). Stanford has placed in the top 5 in 12 out of its last 15 tournaments.
This season the Cardinal finished third nationally in the GolfWeek Collegiate poll and took ninth at NCAAs. They competed in 12 events, winning the Peg Barnard Collegiate. Stanford recorded nine top five finishes in 2000-01 and took second at both the Pac-10 Championships and NCAA West Regional.
O'Connor had two golfers earn NGCA All-America honors in Stephanie Keever (first team) and Hilary Homeyer (honorable mention). Homeyer also earned Verizon Academic All-America honors (second team).
