TARZANA, Calif. -- - Stanford shot a final round 315 on Tuesday to secure a sixth place finish at the Bruin-Wave Invitational, held at the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, Calif.

Stanford posted a 54-hole team score of 929, 26 strokes behind team champion Pepperdine, which claimed the title with a score of 903.

The Waves held off a hard-charging UCLA Bruin squad, which finished second at 905 after opening the day 15 strokes off the lead.

Oklahoma State (911), UNLV (920) and San Diego State (929) rounded out the top five.

Christine Wong of San Diego State survived a final round 80 to claim medalist honors with a three-over 219, four strokes ahead of Pepperdine's Alina Ching (223).

High winds contributed to tough scoring conditions today on the San Fernando Valley course, with 74 (+2) being the lowest score turned in by any player on Tuesday.

Stanford's Sally Watson carded a final round 76 to tie for eighth place at 228, her third top 10 finish of the year. Watson's lone birdie on the day came on the par-5 first hole.

Freshman Mariko Tumangan closed with a 79 to finish tied for 23rd at 234 (+18), picking up her lone birdie of the day on the par-4 18th hole.

Kristina Wong shot a final round 80 after rounds of 81 and 74 on Monday and finished tied for 31st at 235 (+19). Wong was just three over on her round through 13 holes but bogeyed the last five holes en route to an 80.

Senior Lila Barton tied for 34th at 236 (+20) after rounds of 78, 77 and 81.

Sophomore Marissa Mar tied for 36th at 237 (+21) after a final round 80. Mar's three birdies on the backside were not enough to offset nine bogeys and a double bogey on the day.

Stanford will next be in action at the PING/ASU Invitational, scheduled for March 30-April 1 at the Karsten Course in Tempe, Ariz.
