No. 14 Stanford (8-1, 2-1 NorPac) embarks on the second of three lengthy road trips this year, playing three games in the state of Pennsylvania during a four-day stretch. Stanford opens at Temple (3-8, 0-0 Atlantic-10) on Friday, faces LaSalle (4-6, 0-0 Atlantic-10) on Saturday and concludes at Penn State (2-8, 0-1 Big Ten) on Monday. Stanford swept a three-game road trip to the Midwest earlier this season.
Scouting Temple (3-8, 0-0 Atlantic-10): What You Need To Know
Stanford and Temple are hooking up for the first time since 1999. The Cardinal has won two of the three all-time meetings.
Temple, which has lost five straight games, has had trouble scoring goals this year. The Owls have scored just 13 goals overall and no player has more than two.
Scouting LaSalle (4-6, 0-0 Atlantic-10): What You Need To Know
LaSalle, which plays at Rider on Thursday, has been involved in four overtime games this year and sports a 1-3 record in those contests.
The Explorers have outscored their opponents 10-6 in the first period of games, but have been outscored 11-8 over the final 35 minutes.
Scouting Penn State (2-8, 0-1 Big Ten): What You Need To Know
The defending Big Ten regular season champion and perennial NCAA Tournament participant, Penn State is off to an unchacteristic start. Ranked No. 11 in the preseason top-25, the Nittany Lions are receiving only one vote in this week's poll.
Nobody can knock Penn State for a soft schedule. Six of the Nittany Lions' opponents are ranked in the top ten and 11 reside among the top-25.
Stanford assistant coach Mandy Hart was a member of three Big Ten title squads and four NCAA Tournament teams during her playing career at Penn State (1996-00).
Cardinal Remains Just Outside Top-10
Despite suffering its first loss of the year against California over the weekend, Stanford was not penalized in the latest Kookaburra/NFHCA National Coaches poll. In fact, the Cardinal only dropped one position and now stands at No. 14. Stanford cracked the rankings two weeks ago at No. 14 and moved up one spot last week before splitting against Pacific and California in a pair of conference matches.
There's Something Happening Here
Midway through the year, Stanford is enjoying a breakthrough campaign. With eight regular-season games remaining, here's a quick glimpse of the achievements so far:
With a 5-1 win over Pacific on Sept. 25, Stanford established its best start in school history at 8-0. The previous best debut was 7-0 by the 1976 squad.
Stanford cracked the national rankings on Sept. 15 for the first time in two years. After moving up to a program-best No. 13 last week, Stanford is now ranked No. 14.
Stanford is one win shy of matching last year's win total of nine. The Cardinal's most recent winning season came back in 2007 at 13-8 overall.
Stanford's eight-game winning streak was one shy of the school record of nine.
