No. 16 Stanford Hosts No. 10 Iowa Friday On Pac-12 Networks

Stanford checks in at No. 16 this week, dropping five spots from its No. 11 preseason ranking.

	Stanford will host Iowa on Friday, Sept. 7, with that match to be televised nationally on the Pac-12 Networks.

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 16 Stanford (3-3, 0-0 NorPac) evened its record after winning two of three games on a recent road swing through East Lansing, Mich.

Stanford entered that road trip in an unfamiliar position at 1-2, representing the first time since 2008 that the Cardinal's record dipped below the .500 mark.

However, victories over Miami (OH) and Central Michigan appear to have put Stanford back on track. The Cardinal will enter a two-week break after Sunday, adding importance to this week's contests against No. 10 Iowa (2-1) and No. 18 Drexel (3-0). Both squads have climbed in the rankings after pulling upsets in their season openers, with Iowa topping No. 13 Wake Forest 3-2 in overtime and Drexel blanking No. 5 Duke 1-0.

Byrne's OT Game-Winner Helps Down Iowa, 2-1

Stephanie Byrne put away the game-winning goal seven minutes into overtime, lifting No. 19 Stanford to a 2-1 victory over Iowa on Saturday morning in a neutral site contest played at Kent, Ohio.

Stanford will host Iowa on Friday, Sept. 7, at 2:30 p.m. with that match to be televised nationally on the Pac-12 Networks. The Cardinal then welcomes Drexel to The Farm on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m.

Stanford checks in at No. 16 this week, dropping five spots from its No. 11 preseason ranking. The Cardinal has remained a fixture in the national rankings for all but one week during head coach Tara Danielson's tenure. Stanford has already faced two top-25 opponents, including then-No. 1 Maryland. In addition to its regular season series against rival California, Stanford also has contests looming against current top-10 programs North Carolina (1), Syracuse (2), and Connecticut (7).

Looking only at the final numbers, one would have expected Stanford to come away with a sweep of last weekend's road swing. In the three games combined against Michigan State, Miami (OH) and Central Michigan, Stanford owned advantages in shots (62-18) and penalty corners (29-11). Despite its offensive dominance, the Cardinal produced only six goals and wrapped up the trip with a 2-1 mark. Danielson remains encouraged that goals will come if the offense continues to excel.

Difference-Makers Through Six Games
Alex McCawley
Tied for team lead in goals (3), with six of her 11 shots on frame. One year after earning NFHCA All-West Region Second Team honors as a rookie, McCawley's goals have been timely and with a high degree of difficulty.

Kelsey Harbin
Harbin has been a dependable weapon in the backfield, displaying her skills as a sure-fire tackler and stout defender. She notched the game-winning goal against Central Michigan and owns the team's only defensive save.

Becky Dru
A 2011 NFHCA First Team All-American and one of the most prolific scorers in school history, Dru's stats (2 goals, 1 assist) may not jump out. But 12 of her team-high 17 shots have been on goal, so a scoring barrage could be on the way.

Dulcie Davies
The only keeper on Stanford's roster, freshman Dulcie Davies has performed well so far. In addition to notching two shutouts, Davies' nine saves against top-ranked Maryland kept the Cardinal within striking distance. Four of her 10 goals allowed came in one match, so she has usually done her part in keeping Stanford close.
