Stanford, Calif. -
The Stanford field hockey program has announced the signing of Catherine Martin (Washington, DC/National Cathedral HS) to a national letter-of-intent to attend Stanford in 2005-06. Martin is the fifth student-athlete to sign a national letter-of-intent with the Stanford field hockey program for the 2005 season.
"We are thrilled to add another exceptional athlete to this year's class," said Stanford head coach Lesley Irvine. "Catherine has tremendous ability as a young player. Her strengths are her composure and confidence on the ball. She really is an excellent addition."
Martin was a three-time All-Independent School League selection and team MVP (2002-04) during her prep career, while also adding honorable mention All-Metro honors in each of her final two campaigns. She scored 37 points as a senior in 2004 with a team-high 15 assists and 11 goals to lead her squad to the best record in school history (15-1-1) and a second-place finish during both the ISL regular season and conference tournament. Her 2004 team was ranked as high as No. 4 by the Washington Post and finished the season at No. 5.
She also played from 2001-05 with the Capitol Pegasus club team, serving as captain in 2004 and 2005. The squad won a pool championship at the National Indoor Tournament in 2004 and qualified for the event's "A" pool in 2005.
