Stanford Edges Cal in NorPac Championship

BERKELEY, Calif. - The California Field Hockey team lost to the Stanford Cardinal, 1-0, Friday afternoon on Kleeberger Field in the NorPac Conference champioship match. The Bears ended the regular season 6-9 overall and a second place finish in conference play.

The two squads played to a scoreless tie throughout the first half and looked to remain that way when Stanford's Mallory Chambers hit for the game-winning goal with 6:33 remaining. The Bears offense had trouble all day against the Cardinal's stifling defense and was unable to tie the game in the last minutes of play. Cal managed only four shots on goal throughout the match, while Stanford notched 25.

Bear goalkeeper Karen Hagan turned in an excellent game, stopping 15 of Stanford's attempts.
