Cal Knocks Off Stanford, 2-1

STANFORD, Calif. - California upset 19th-ranked Stanford, 2-1, today in the final NorPac game for both teams. With the victory, the Bears force a tie-break game between Cal and Stanford to determine the conference champion. The game date and time will be determined early this week.

The game was scoreless at the end of the first half despite the Cardinal outshooting the Bears, 6-0. Cal struck early in the second half, when Megan Stinsbury sent the ball past Cardinal keeper Kelly Naylor with 27:00 remaining in the game. The Bears quickly capitalized on the mementum with a goal by Catlin Braught with 25:00 minutes remaining. The Cardinal finally countered with 21:00 left on a goal by Monique Leroux. Although Stanford had 11 penalty corners in the second half, they were not able to close the gap.

Stanford hosts UC Davis tomorrow at 2 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara on November 8 at 1 p.m.
