Stanford Edges Pacific 1-0
Second Half Goal Propels Cardinal to Fifth Straight Win
Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford field hockey team defeated Pacific for the second time in two meetings this season,1-0, to extend its win streak to five games and improve to 8-4 (3-0 NorPac) on the season. The loss dropped the Tigers to 1-9 (0-3 NorPac). The Cardinal topped the Tigers 6-0 two weeks ago at Pacific to open conference play.
Stanford controlled the game from start to end, keeping the ball on the Pacific half of the field and constantly applying pressure on the Tiger goal. The Cardinal fired 28 shots on goal for the game, but only one found its way past Tiger senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Castillo, who recorded 15 saves. Stanford junior forward Carey Cloyd broke through with the winning goal in the 15th minute of the second half to deliver the Cardinal to victory. Defensively, Stanford allowed Pacific just one shot on goal for the entire game.
