Caitlin McCurdy Named Volunteer Assistant Coach

Caitlin McCurdy, a member of three NCAA Tournament teams during her playing career at Iowa, has joined the Stanford field hockey staff as a volunteer assistant coach. McCurdy enjoyed a successful playing career with the Hawkeyes from 2005-08, helping guide Iowa to an NCAA Final Four appearance during her senior year while advancing to the postseason in 2006 and 2007.

Xanthe Travlos Named Stanford's First All-American Since 1998

Junior Xanthe Travlos has been named a 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA All-American, becoming the 13th player in school history to earn the national honor and first since Justina Williams in 1998. Travlos was named to the 16-player Second Team. She is only the third fourth player since 1990 to be selected as an All-American. Travlos is a three-time Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region pick, earning first team honors as a freshman and junior while garnering second team accolades last year as a sophomore.

Senior defender Nora Soza has been selected to participate in this year's NFHCA Division I Senior All-Star Game, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The game brings together 38 of the nation's top collegiate field hockey players and is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21, at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, N.C.

Gandhi has been named to the first team each of the last two seasons while Travlos is a three-time pick, earning first team honors as a freshman and junior while garnering second team accolades last year as a freshman.

No. 14 Stanford's record-setting season came to an end on Saturday morning in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, as the Cardinal fell to No. 4 Princeton 4-0. Saturday's loss closes out a terrific 2009 campaign for Stanford, which established a school record with 17 victories, captured the NorPac Tournament championship for the third straight season and remained a fixture in the national rankings for more than two months.

Back in the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in school history and making its first appearance since 2007, No. 14 Stanford (17-4, 5-1 NorPac) will play at No. 4 Princeton (14-2, 7-0 Ivy League) when the postseason gets underway. The first round pairing represents a rematch of last year's NCAA Play-In game, when host Princeton beat Stanford 8-2. The site's second game pits No. 8 Syracuse against No. 9 Boston College at 11 a.m. The winners meet Sunday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m.
