Gandhi, Travlos Named Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region First Team Picks

Juniors Camille Gandhi and Xanthe Travlos have been named 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA All-West Region First Team selections, as announced today by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Gandhi has been named to the first team each of the last two seasons while Travlos is a three-time pick, earning first team honors as a freshman and junior while garnering second team accolades last year as a freshman.

No. 14 Stanford's record-setting season came to an end on Saturday morning in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, as the Cardinal fell to No. 4 Princeton 4-0. Saturday's loss closes out a terrific 2009 campaign for Stanford, which established a school record with 17 victories, captured the NorPac Tournament championship for the third straight season and remained a fixture in the national rankings for more than two months.

Back in the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in school history and making its first appearance since 2007, No. 14 Stanford (17-4, 5-1 NorPac) will play at No. 4 Princeton (14-2, 7-0 Ivy League) when the postseason gets underway. The first round pairing represents a rematch of last year's NCAA Play-In game, when host Princeton beat Stanford 8-2. The site's second game pits No. 8 Syracuse against No. 9 Boston College at 11 a.m. The winners meet Sunday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m.
