USRowing release
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Women's Rowing alumna Elle Logan '11 will get a chance at a second Olympic Gold Medal in London this summer, as USRowing named her to the U.S. eight boat Friday.
This summer will mark Logan's second Olympic Games appearance. She was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. eight at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Logan actually qualified for the London Games in the women's pair at the World Rowing Cup on May 7. However, she, along with partner Erin Cafaro, turned down the bid in an effort to earn a spot in the eight. Cafaro was also named to the U.S. eight Friday.
Since winning Olympic Gold four years ago, Logan has been a mainstay on U.S. boats in international competition. She was part of the U.S. four that grabbed silver at the 2009 World Championships then captured gold medals with the eight at the 2010 and 2011 worlds.
Selection for the women's eight was determined based on lineup evaluations, national selection regatta results and training camp performance in Princeton, N.J., and Chula Vista, Calif., under U.S. head coaches Tom Terhaar and Tim McLaren.
Rowing competition at the London Games begins July 28 at Eton Dorney Rowing Centre at Dorney Lake.
