STANFORD, Calif. -
Stanford forward and 2012-13 Associated Press Preseason All-American Chiney Ogwumike will participate in a Twitter Chat Friday from 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m. PT with other members of the AP squad.
Moderated by Doug Feinberg, the Associated Press' national women's basketball sports writer, the chat will involve members of the AP's Preseason All-America Team interacting with and engaging fans by answering questions about the upcoming season, their favorite places to play and all things basketball.
The chat will employ the hashtag #APhoopchat and fans wanting to participate and ask questions of the All-Americans are encouraged to use that hashtag when tweeting their inquiries.
Ogwumike, who tweets under the handle @Chiney321 and boasts over 6,000 followers on Twitter, was one of six women named to the preseason All-America team Tuesday morning. She was joined by Baylor's Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims, Delaware's Elena Delle Donne, Maryland's Alyssa Thomas and Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins on the team.
Entering her third season on The Farm in 2012-13, Ogwumike is coming off of a 2011-12 campaign in which she earned WBCA Coaches' All-America honors as well as being named to the Associated Press All-America Second Team. The Cypress, Texas native averaged 15.1 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, becoming, along with older sister Nnemkadi Ogwumike (22.5 ppg, 10.2 rpg), just one of five Stanford players to average a season double-double. The sisters joined Nicole Powell (2003-04), Jeanne Ruark (1979-80) and Kathy Murphy (1977-78) on that select list.
Her stellar play was a big catalyst to Stanford capturing its 12th straight Pac-12 title and making its fifth straight trip to the Final Four.
No. 4/4 Stanford opens up its exhibition slate tonight at 7 p.m. against Corban University, followed by a second exhibition Saturday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. against Vanguard University. The Cardinal officially opens the 2012-13 campaign next Friday, Nov. 9 at Maples Pavilion, where Stanford has won a current national-best 79 straight games, against Fresno State. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
