Greenfield, Payne and Samuelson give viewers an inside look at their summers on The Farm
Oct. 24, 2012
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Women's Basketball's web series "Six Pack" returns in 2012-13, continuing to document life at Stanford through the experiences of the program's six-woman Class of 2015.
In the fourth episode of the series, and first of this season, The Cardinal Channel follows newly-minted sophomores Taylor Greenfield, Erica Payne and Bonnie Samuelson during their summer on The Farm. With their first collegiate seasons under their respective belts, the trio talks about offseason workouts, summer classes and how they spend their summer months continuing to further their academic and athletic excellence.
The sophomores cover their academic workloads, as viewers get a glimpse into a summer writing course at Stanford which features Greenfield, Payne and fellow Six-Pack member Alex Green. With less required on-court time during the offseason, the teammates get to enjoy more time to spend with friends, explore the area around campus and catch up on their units.
As Greenfield notes, the time spent working out in the gym still requires commitment. Whereas during the season the team's workouts and practices take place in one block of time, during the offseason the time is spaced out during the day to allow for class time, meals and free evenings.
Sports performance workouts at dawn give way to breakfast and class, which roll into small group workouts with coaches at Maples Pavilion. Depending on class schedules, any member of the team may make three to four trips to Maples Pavilion on any given day of the week.
Performing at a high level in the classroom, the weight room and on the court requires plenty of energy, and the trio of sophomores takes viewers into the Arrillaga Dining Commons which works closely with Stanford Sports Performance to provide Cardinal student-athletes with the proper nutritional needs and balance to stay at the tops of their games.
Heading into their second years at Stanford, Greenfield, Payne and Samuelson talk about their freshman experiences and their continued maturation as college students and members of the Stanford Women's Basketball program. As each looks to build upon the momentum created in a Pac-12 championship season and a run to the Final Four, the Six Pack is primed and ready for Year Two.
