STANFORD, Calif. -
Stanford Women's Basketball has partnered with the Bay Area Women Sports Initiative (BAWSI) and the 49ers Foundation to host Parents and Daughters Day when the Cardinal plays Oregon Feb. 24.
The day will begin with a pregame gathering of parents and daughters in the Arrillaga Practice Gym (adjacent to Maples Pavilion) at 3:15 p.m. Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics Bernard Muir and former San Francisco 49er tight end and three-time Super Bowl champion Brent Jones and will speak on how sports have played a role in their lives and their daughters' lives. Fans will also have an opportunity to ask questions of both dads in a meet-and-greet portion.
The event will then move inside Maples Pavilion as the Cardinal takes on the Ducks at 4:00 p.m. in the regular-season home finale. Seniors Joslyn Tinkle and Mikaela Ruef will also be honored in a postgame Senior Day ceremony.
All fans and families with tickets to the game are invited to attend the pregame event, and special discount game tickets - $5 general admission or $15 upper reserved - may be purchased in advance online by using the promotional code "DAUGHTERS" at www.gostanford.com/promo-code. Parking on game day is free.
"There is nothing more rewarding than playing an integral part in helping to build your daughter's confidence and strong self esteem." Jones said. "Focusing on role models in women's sports has given my girls the opportunity to dream, play and achieve all while sharing a passion with their Dad - sports!"
BAWSI's programs create avenues for women athletes to make a positive difference in their communities and encourage all parents to take their daughters to see female athletes compete as a way to inspire girls to play sports, go to college, and achieve their goals.
