STANFORD, Calif. - No. 6/6 Stanford women's basketball will host a Women In Sports celebration during this Sunday's 4 p.m. contest against No. 20/23 Colorado.
Student-athletes and coaches from many Cardinal women's teams will be on hand to celebrate this legacy and inspire the next generation of female athletes. At halftime these student-athletes and coaches will be presented with the Capital One Cup earned for the 2011-12 season.
Stanford's women's programs have a long and storied tradition of success. Starting with the first collegiate women's basketball game in 1896 (a 2-1 Stanford victory over Cal), through 42 women's NCAA Championships, capturing the first two Capital One Cups (2010-11 and 2011-12) and 18 Learfield Directors' Cups, Stanford's women's athletic programs are unmatched in college athletics.
Women's teams scheduled to participate in Sunday's recognition include golf, soccer, gymnastics, lacrosse, volleyball, track and field, softball and field hockey.
Beginning at 3 p.m. when Maples Pavilion's doors open to fans, several women's teams will have activity stations set up on the concourse inside Maples Pavilion to teach skills and interact with fans of all ages.
Fans must have a ticket for Sunday's game to participate at the activity stations in Maples Pavilion. Tickets start at just $12 for adults and $6 for youth and may be purchased in advance online by going HERE or by calling 800-STANFORD.
