No. 15 Stanford 97, Oregon 72

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Olympia Scott had 25 points and 16 rebounds as No. 15 Stanford downed Oregon 97-72 on Sunday.

The Cardinal (5-4, 2-0 Pac-10) struggled slightly in the first half against the aggressive Ducks, but pulled ahead to lead by as many 28 points in the second half.

Kristin Folkl, who joined the Cardinal last Sunday after leading Stanford's volleyball team to the NCAA championship, had 16 points, as did Vanessa Nygaard. Milena Flores added 10 points and 11 assists, while Melody Peterson had 13 points.

Oregon (5-5, 1-1) was led by freshman Brianne Meharry with 18 points. Natalie Hughes had 13 points and Sonja Curtis added 12.

Stanford trailed 24-23 after Hughes' jumper with 7:09 to go in the first half. But the Cardinal answered with a 17-6 run, capped by Nygaard's 3-pointer at 2:38, to take a 40-30 lead.

Oregon was aggressive at the start, taking an early 10-7 lead on Meharry's layup at 14:40. Meharry led the Ducks in the half with nine points.

Stanford appeared to become more comfortable with Oregon's style as the half continued, and took a 46-39 lead into halftime. Scott had 16 of her points during the half.

Nygaard hit three of her four 3-pointers in the first half, then had a scare in the second half when she came down hard under the basket while grabbing for the ball.

Nygaard, who went into the game averaging 15.6 points and 7.8 rebounds and leading the Pac-10 Conference with a .850 free-throw percentage, briefly left the game, but returned to rousing applause about five minutes later.

Oregon was without 6-foot-5 sophomore Jenny Mowe, who has tendinitis in her right knee, and did not make the trip to California.

Stanford now has a 47-game Pac-10 winning streak, dating back to Feb. 9, 1995. Stanford also holds a 58-game winning streak at Maples Pavilion.
