PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Chamique Holdsclaw scored 25 points and Tamika Catchings added
20 to lead top-ranked Tennessee to a 88-70 victory over number
10 Stanford, snapping their 49-game home winning streak.
Stanford's last home loss came to Purdue on March 26th, 1994 in
the NCAA Tournament West Regional Final. The Cardinal (1-3) are
off to their worst start since 1981-1982.
Sameka Randall added 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Lady Vols
(5-0) enjoyed a 53-34 advantage on the boards.
Stanford held a 45-44 lead at halftime but Tennessee scored the
first 14 points of the second half to take a 58-45 lead that was
never be threatened.
Olympia Scott scored 18 points for the Cardinal, who shot just
17.2 percent (5-of-29) from the field in the second half.
Vanessa Nygaard added 17 points and 10 rebounds for Stanford,
which comitted 16 turnovers and shot 2-of-13 from three-point
range.
