Stanford Opens with 88-63 Exhibition Win
Stanford, Calif. : The Stanford women's basketball team kicked of the 1997-98 season with an 88-63 exhibition game victory over Kosice (Slovakia). Senior center and Naismith Player-of-the-Year candidate Olympia Scott led the Cardinal with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Five Cardinal players scored in double-figures. Senior forward Vanessa Nygaard added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists in the winning effort.
Stanford will open the regular season on the road Friday, November 21 against Wisconsin. After a meeting with Purdue two days later, the Cardinal will return home to face the University of San Francisco, a 1997 NCAA Tournament participant, in its season home-opener at Maples Pavilion. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
