Jan. 24, 1998

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Kristin Folkl scored a career-high 36 points in only 27 minutes to lead No. 13 Stanford to a 90-70 victory over No. 15 Washington on Saturday night.

It was Folkl's second consecutive personal-best scoring night. Folkl, who is also an All-American volleyball player, scored 22 points against Washington State on Thursday night.

Stanford improved its overall record to 10-5 and its league-leading Pac-10 mark to 7-1. The Huskies fell to 12-4 and 3-4.

Folkl seems to have brought some magic with her since she joined the team Dec. 26 following the Cardinal's NCAA championship volleyball season.

The Cardinal is 8-1 with her in the lineup after starting the season at 2-4. Folkl finished 14-for-18 from the field and 8-of-13 from the free-throw line. She also had seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Olympia Scott scored 23 points for Stanford and Heather Owen added 10.

Folkl hit eight of 10 field goal attempts in the first half as Stanford took a 46-35 lead.

Jamie Redd led the Huskies with 20 points, and Amber Hall had 19 points and 10 rebounds.
