McLain, the defending NCAA triple jump champion, posted a top jump of 44-4 ¼ feet (13.52 meters) in the qualifying round of the women's triple jump on the opening day of track and field competition. Her mark failed to qualify for the final round.
McLain (2004-08) will be competing in her first Olympics for the Unites States...She just completed a year for Stanford where she captured the NCAA title both indoors and outdoors in the triple jump...She is a 14-time All-American for the Cardinal, just one short of the Stanford women's track and field record...McLain is the Stanford record holder in the triple jump with a mark of 46-5 ¼...She qualified for the Olympics by placing third at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the triple jump with a mark of 45-9 3/4.
