  • Competing in the heats of the 5,000 meters, Dobson ran a time of 14:05.47 and did not qualify for the final. Dobson, running in the second heat, saw the race go out slowly with Farah Mohamed of Great Britain taking the leaders through 3,000 meters in just 8:40.02. From their, the pace picked up with Dobson unable to stay with the leaders to finish in ninth place, ending his first Olympic Games.

  • Dobson (2000-05) will be competing in the Olympics for the United States for the first time...He is one of the most decorated distance runners in Stanford history with ten All-America honors...He was the 2005 NCAA champion indoors in the 5,000 meters...Dobson also holds the Stanford school record in three distance events; the 3,000 meter steeplechase (8:32.09), the 5,000 meters (13:15.33), and the 10,000 meters (27:59.72)...He qualified for the Olympics by placing third in the 5,000 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials with a time of 13:29.76.
