2009-10 Stanford Wrestling Schedule
STANFORD, Calif. -- The Stanford wrestling program has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2009-10 season. Stanford will wrestle in 19 duals and compete in some of the nation's most competitive collegiate tournaments this year under second-year head coach Jason Borrelli.
Stanford will begin its quest for the 2010 Pac-10 Championship with a challenging regular-season schedule that includes five teams that ended last season ranked in the top-25 NWCA Coaches Poll. Stanford will face off against seven Pac-10 opponents this season, helping the Cardinal prepare for the conference tournament, which will be held in Davis, Calif., in March.
The Cardinal will hold its wrestle-offs on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. prior to its first competition at the Northwestern Duals on Nov. 14 in Evanston, Ill. Competition will include Purdue, Northwestern and Northern Iowa, three teams which ended the 2008-09 season ranked in the top-25 of the NWCA Coaches Poll.
Stanford will remain on the road for the remainder of November, facing Cal Baptist on Nov. 20 in Riverside, Calif., and will take part in the Fullerton Open on Nov. 21. The Cardinal will wrap up the month in San Francisco as they face Menlo College and San Francisco State on Nov. 25.
The team's home opener will be Friday, Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m. against the Wyoming Cowboys. The Cardinal will also wrestle in the Reno Tournament of Champions Dec. 20 and the Midlands in Evanston, Ill Dec. 29-30.
The Cardinal will kick off the heart of the dual season by hosting the Stanford Duals on Jan. 9, where the team will compete against Northern Colorado and Pac-10 foe Oregon State. Stanford will take a trip to the state of Michigan in mid-January, where it will participate in the Spartan Duals on the campus of Michigan State and face Central Michigan the following day in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
The Cardinal will close out the season with six duals against Pac-10 competition. First, Stanford will travel to San Luis Obispo, Calif., to face the Cal Poly Mustangs on Jan. 22. Next, the Cardinal will host reigning Pac-10 Champion Boise State on Jan. 29 and Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 31.
Continuing Pac-10 action, Stanford will travel to Davis, Calif., for a dual with UC Davis on Feb. 6. The team's home finale will take place on Feb. 12 against Cal State Bakersfield. The Cardinal will end the regular season at Arizona State on Feb. 14.
The Pac-10 Championships are scheduled to take place in Davis, Calif., Feb. 26-27. The NCAA Championships will be held Mar. 18-20 in Omaha, Neb.
