Stanford, Calif. - Seven Stanford wrestlers were honored by the Pac-10 when the conference announced its 2007 All-Academic Teams this week. Cardinal juniors Tanner Gardner and Josh Zupancic were First Team honorees, while sophomores Jared Boyer and Tyler Parker were named to the Second Team.

Gardner, who is pursuing a BA in Public Policy and an MA in Sociology, was honored on the First Team. Boasting a 3.75 GPA, Gardner was the Pac-10 Champion at 125 pounds and finished the 2007 season with a 42-5 record and his second career All-America honor. The junior tied a Stanford record for single-season wins and finished seventh at the NCAA Championships earlier this month.

Zupancic is an American Studies major with a 3.65 GPA and earned a spot on the First Team. The Akron, Ohio native finished second in the Pac-10 this season and seventh in the nation with a 37-12 record, earning the first All-America honor of his career.

Boyer, an American Studies major, was the Cardinal starter at 197 pounds this season, and was a Second Team All-Academic honoree with a 3.36 GPA. Boyer posted ten wins in 2007, including five in dual matches. Parker, an undeclared major with a 3.66 GPA, was also named to the Second Team. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native collected 11 wins this season, while starting for the Cardinal at 149 pounds.

Three more Cardinal wrestlers, Brian Perry, Matt Kim and Luke Feist, were among the Honorable Mention selections. Perry and Feist were both Pac-10 placewinners and qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2007, while Kim won eight matches in his first season of collegiate competition at 141 pounds.

To be eligible for selection to an academic team, a student- athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
