Paulsen Takes Third at California Collegiates
Feb. 3, 2007 Complete Results in PDF Format San Francisco, Calif. - Five wrestlers represented the Cardinal today at the 31st annual California Collegiate Wrestling Invitational in San Francisco. Freshman Justin Paulsen placed for the first time in his collegiate career, finishing third at 133 pounds with a 5-1 record. After picking up his first collegiate pin against John Hanks of Cal Poly, Paulsen dropped an 8-5 decision to John Cardenas of Cal State Bakersfield. The Cardinal freshman battled his way back through the consolation bracket with another pin and two wins by technical fall to earn his third place finish. The Artesia, Calif. native posted a 19-2 technical fall over Hanks in the third place match. Freshman Lucas Espericueta and junior Scott Loescher advanced to the championship semifinals at 157 pounds and 165 pounds, respectively, but dropped matches in the consolation bracket to fall just short of placing. The Cardinal squad continues the dual season on Friday, heading to Boise State for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Broncos.
