STANFORD, Calif. - The 20th-ranked Stanford wrestling team welcomes No. 37 Boise State and No. 9 American to The Farm this week. The Cardinal will face the Broncos on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 6:30 p.m. and the Eagles on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. Both duals will be held in Burnham Pavilion.
Stanford (4-4, 1-0 Pac-12) is coming off three tournament appearances in the month of December - the Vegas Invitational, the Reno Tournament of Champions and the Midlands Championships. Cardinal Junior Ryan Mango placed sixth at Midlands last week to lead Stanford.
The Cardinal is led by two-time All-American Nick Amuchastegui. The senior is the top-ranked wrestler in the nation at 174 pounds. He is 11-0 overall this season and has posted three falls. Mango is Stanford's other ranked wrestler, coming in at No. 10 at 133 pounds. He leads the team with 17 wins and four falls this season.
Boise State enters the week with an 0-4 overall record and an 0-2 mark in the Pac-12 Conference. The Broncos are coming off a 43-3 loss to second-ranked Oklahoma State last week. The team, which has dropped duals to Oregon State and Arizona State, will also face Pac-12 opponents CSU Bakersfield and Cal Poly this week. The Broncos currently have four wrestlers ranked in the top-20 in the nation - junior 141-pounder Josh Strait (No. 16), junior 157-pounder George Ivanov (No. 15), sophomore 184-pounder Jake Swartz (No. 12) and sophomore heavyweight J.T. Felix (No. 19).
American (1-4), which placed 14th as a team at the Midlands Championships last week, registered its lone dual win of the year at George Mason, 27-15, on Dec. 10. The Eagles have three wrestlers ranked in the top-10 in the nation, including the top-ranked heavyweight Ryan Flores. Senior 141-pounder Matt Mariachere is No. 9, while senior 157-pounder Ganbayar Sanjaa is No. 4. Junior Daniel Mitchell is ranked No. 15 at 197 pounds.
Up next, Stanford will travel to Pac-12 foe Cal Poly on Sunday, Jan. 15. The Cardinal and the Mustangs will square off at 1 p.m. PT in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
