No. 14 Penn Beats Stanford, 28-6
STANFORD, Calif. --- The University of Pennsylvania (2-1) defeated host Stanford University (0-5) 28-6 in nonconference wrestling action on Wednesday night at Burnham Pavilion.
In the best match of the night, Penn senior Brandon Slay, who finished second at the 1997 NCAA Championships, held off Stanford's Jeff Grant (Albany, OR/South Albany HS) 11-9 in the 167-pound bout.
For Stanford, junior B.J. Sanchez (Arvada, CO/Regis Jesuit HS) imrpoved to 10-4 on the season with a 3-1 win over Tim Ortman at 150 pounds.
The Cardinal returns to action on Saturday when it competes in the "Aggie Open" at UC Davis.
