Evanston, Ill. - Stanford sophomore Scott Loescher captured fifth place in the Greco-Roman division at the 2006 University Nationals today at 74 kg.

Loescher took a bye in the first round and then added a 3-0, 1-2, 3-0 victory over Nathaniel Augustson, who just completed his collegiate career at Ohio State to advance to the quarterfinals. Loescher fell into the consolation bracket after eventual second-place finisher Kevin Lozano from the U.S. Olympic Education Center, despite a 9-3 victory in the second period.

In the wrestlebacks, Loescher notched a pair of pins with a fall at 1:21 over Bryan Cantrell and his second win of the day over Augustson with a fall at 1:43 to secure fifth place. Loescher's only other loss on the day came to third-place finisher and 2005 Champion Trent Paulson of Iowa State.

Loescher, along with former teammates Ray Blake, Miguel Matta and Matt Gentry and current Stanford teammates Jared Boyer, Phillip Doerner, Luke Feist, Eric Minnick and Josh Zupancic, will compete in the freestyle division tomorrow and Sunday.
