Wrestling Eliminated from NCAA Championships

CELEVELAND -- Senior Jeff Grant (Albany, OR/South Albany HS) and sophomore Zach Zimmerer (Billings, MT/Billings Central HS) were eliminated from the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday morning after losing consolation bouts. The three-day meet, which concludes on Saturday, is being held at Cleveland State University.

Zimmerer, a two-time NCAA qualifier at 126 pounds, was knocked out of the tournament after a 9-3 loss to 11th-seeded Shawn Ford of Arizona State. Zimmerer was 1-2 at NCAAs, with both losses coming to seeded wrestlers.

Grant, a 167-pounder, lost to Ben Perkins of Iowa State by match termination at the 6:35 mark (21-5 score). A match is terminated when a wrestler takes a lead of 15 points or more. Grant finished the tournament with a 1-2 mark.
