Stanford Defeats Portland State, 39-3

Wrestling earns first win of season.

STANFORD, Calif. -- Stanford University picked up its first wrestling win of the season with a 39-3 win over the Portland State Vikings on Saturday afternoon at Burnham Pavilion. Stanford is now 1-8, while Portland State fell to 0-9.

Stanford was led by junior BJ Sanchez, who defeated Viking sophomore Wayne Miller 19-4 at 150 pounds. Cardinal junior Doug Bardsley had a solid performance as well, defeating sophomore RJ Gillespie 16-5 at 158 pounds. Stanford showed great strength all around, winning all but one of its 9 matches.

Stanford returns to action on Friday, February 6 when it hosts Cal State Fullerton at Burnham Pavilion at 7 p.m. Portland State traveled to San Francisco State following the Stanford dual for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
