STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Men's Water Polo saw 12 of its number earn MPSF All-Academic Scholar-Athlete recognition, the conference announced. The number of Cardinal honorees was once again tops among the rest of the conference schools and matched last year's 12 selections.

Student-athletes must possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed one full academic year at their institution prior to the season for which the award is beign received, and have participated in at least half of their team's contests during the season.

Seniors Andrew Drake (3.07 grade-point average), Will Hindle-Katel (3.70) and Chris Jacobson (3.30) all earned their third career honor, while Jimmie Sandman (3.62), Will Smith (3.36), Cody Wiesen (3.57), Sage Wright (3.83) and Steven Wright (3.45) were each honored for the second time in their careers.

Scholar-athletes being recognized for the first time by the MPSF included: Ryan Kent (3.00), Ryan McCarthy (3.03), Jeffrey Schwimer (3.49) and Drac Wigo (3.00).

Stanford turned in a second-place national finish in 2008, ending the year with an overall record of 25-6. The Cardinal also finished second in the MPSF regular-season standings with a 6-2 mark.
