Stanford, Ca - Three seniors on the fourth-ranked Stanford men's water polo team will be playing in their final home game of their careers when the Cardinal hosts Pacific on Saturday (10 a.m.) in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) game at the Avery Aquatic Center.
Senior Tyler Drake has scored 81 goals in his four seasons at Stanford including a team-leading 33 goals this year. J.J. Garton has scored a career-high 23 goals this year while Beau Stockstill has been a reserve goalkeeper for Stanford in his four seasons. Last weekend, Stockstill had a season-high six saves against Santa Clara.
Stanford, 15-7 overall and 4-3 in the MPSF, will face Pacific (15-14 overall, 2-5 overall) for a fourth time this year. All three previous games have been competitive. On Sept. 16 at the NorCal Tournament at Stanford, Janson and Drac Wigo combined for five goals in Stanford's 9-6 victory over the Tigers. Janson Wigo led the Cardinal attack with three goals while Sandy Hohener had nine saves. On Sept. 23 in Stockton, Pacific scored a 11-10 upset victory in overtime. With 17 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, Pacific senior Matt Mitchell scored his only goal of the game in a 6-on-5 situation to give the Tigers their first win over Stanford since October 7, 2000, an 8-7 decision at Stanford. On Oct. 15 at the Southern California Tournament at USC, Tyler Drake tallied a career-high six goals to lead Stanford to a 14-6 victory over Pacific. Michael Bury and J.J. Garton each added two goals.
