Stanford University (5-0) returns home on Oct. 12 (3:00 p.m.) to face Loyola Marymount (7-6) in a non-league game at the Avery Aquatic Center ... The Lions are ranked #10 in the nation ... LMU is led by Steve Lipsinski with 30 goals, and Tamas Szego with 17 ... Steve Lipinski is the younger brother of former Cardinal standout Michael Lipinski ... On Oct. 13-14, Stanford will host the NorCal Water Polo Tournament, featuring many of the top water polo teams in the United States ... The 15-team tournament features #1 Stanford, #2 UCLA, #3 Pepperdine, #4 USC, #5 California, #6 Long Beach State, #7 UC San Diego, #8 UC Santa Barbara, #9 UC Irvine, #10 Loyola Marymount, #11 Pacific, #17 Air Force, #19 Cal Baptist and Santa Clara ... Stanford will begin play on Oct. 13 (9:15 a.m.) against Santa Clara ... If Stanford wins, the Cardinal will face either #3 Pepperdine or #19 Cal Baptist at 1:45 p.m. ... The 2001 NorCal Tournament at Stanford will feature the nation's best water polo teams ... Thirteen of the 15 teams entered are ranked in the collegiate water polo Top 20 ... That includes all of the nation's Top 10 teams ... #1 Stanford is the nation's top team, and last week scored an 8-4 victory over #5 California as Tony Azevedo scored three goals ... Two-time defending NCAA champion UCLA moved from third to second nationally by virtue of its 7-5 victory over previously second-ranked USC ... Brett Ormsby scored four goals to lead the Bruins attack ... Ormsby scored the game winner with less than four minutes left in the game ... For his efforts, Ormsby was named MPSF Player of the Week ... Ormsby leads the Bruins in scoring with 17 goals and is shooting 50 percent on the season ... Azevedo and Cardinal goalkeeper Nick Ellis have been previous winners of MPSF Player of the Week honors ... Fourth-ranked USC (3-3) dropped two games last weekend, losing 7-5 to UCLA, and a 7-3 decision to seventh-ranked UC San Diego ... Predrag Damjanov leads the Trojan attack with ten goals ... Third-ranked Pepperdine is 5-1 overall after scoring an 11-8 victory over UCSD, and a 9-5 decision over Loyola Marymount last weekend ...
