Tony Azevedo Leads U.S. Senior National Team in Greece

July 19, 2002 Lausanne, Greece - Three members of the 2002 Stanford men's water polo team are currently playing for the U.S. Men's Senior National Team at the 2002 Fina Water Polo World League in Greece. Sophomore Tony Azevedo and seniors Peter Hudnut and Jeff Nesmith are all part of the team that has advanced through the fifth round of competition. The US is in second place in Group B after the first four rounds behind undefeated Hungary. The U.S. and Hungary will face off four times in the final rounds of the preliminaries: on July 19th and 21st in Budapest and July 26th and 27th in Moraga, Calif.. The top two teams from Groups A and B advance to the Super Final in Patras, Greece from August 1-4. Azevedo is the scoring leader for all eight teams with 22 goals in his eight matches.
