2009 MPSF All-Academic Selections 
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's water polo topped the conference for the second straight year with 12 student-athletes selected to the MPSF's All-Academic list. The Cardinal players honored are Ryan Kent, Andrew LaForge, Ryan McCarthy, Travis Noll, Alex Pulido, Jimmie Sandman, Jeffrey Schwimer, Peter Sefton, Jacob Smith, Will Smith, Cody Wiesen and Drac Wigo.
The 12 selections also marked the third year in a row that Stanford can boast that number of student-athletes selected to the MPSF's All-Academic list.
Student-athletes must possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, be at least a sophomore academically, have completed one full academic year at their institution prior to the season for which the award is being received, and have participated in at least half of their team's contests during the season.
Sandman (3.70 grade-point average), Will Smith (3.41) and Wiesen (3.54) each earned their third career MPSF All-Academic selection, while Kent (3.18), McCarthy (3.03), Schwimer (3.26) and Wigo (3.14) were all picked for the second time in their respective careers.
Second-year Cardinal student-athletes LaForge (3.37), Noll (3.61), Sefton (3.22) and Jacob Smith (3.45) all earned their first career all-academic nods, while junior Alex Pulido (3.17) was also selected to the list for the first time.
Stanford recorded a 21-4 overall mark in 2009, and turned in a runner-up finish in the MPSF regular season standings with a 7-1 record.
