Four Stanford players were rewarded with All-American honors from the American Water Polo Coaches Association for the 2005 season. Peter Varellas and Thomas Hopkins picked up First-Team All-American honors after completing the season as Stanford's top two scorers with 62 and 48 goals, respectively. Sandy Hohener captured Second-Team honors with 171 saves this season. J.J. Garton rounded out Stanford's All-American honors earning a spot as a Third-Team All-American.
The Cardinal ended the 2005 season with a phenomenal effort in the NCAA Tournament capturing second place after a close 3-2 loss in the Championship match against #1 ranked USC. Seniors Peter Varellas and Thomas Hopkins earned spots on the NCAA All-Tournament First-Team. Varellas scored one of Stanford's two goals in the final match. Goalie Sandy Hohener closed the season with one of his best performances making 11 saves against USC and allowing only three goals. Hohener earned a spot on the All-Tournament Second-Team along with J.J. Garton and freshman William Hindle-Katel.
Stanford also proved dominant in the MPSF, capturing three All-MPSF First-Team honors for Peter Varellas, Thomas Hopkins, and Sandy Hohener. J.J. Garton and William Hindle-Katel also came away with Honorable Mention All-MPSF honors. Hindle-Katel was named 2005 MPSF Newcomer of the Year after completing his first collegiate water polo season as Stanford's third leading scorer with 37 goals.
