No. 3 California Defeats No. 2 Stanford in The Big Splash

STANFORD, Calif. - Brad Kittredge scored three goals, including the game winner with 4:11 to play to lift the third-ranked California water polo team to a 7-6 victory over second-ranked Stanford in the annual "Big Splash" on Saturday morning at deGuerre Pool. The "Big Splash" always is played before the "Big Game".

The Golden Bears led throughout much of the game, including a 4-1 lead at the end of the first half. Cal maintained its three goal lead at 5-2 after three periods.

The Golden Bears led 7-4 with 4:11 to play in the game. But a two-point goal by Stanford's Layne Beaubien cut the margin to 7-6 with 1:35 to play.

The victory raised Cal's season record to 20-5. Stanford, led by Beaubien with four points, fell to 17-6.
