Men's Water Polo Falls in Finals of Nor Cal Tournament

STANFORD, Ca. -- USC's Mateo Juric scored the game winning goal with 1:55 to play to lift the third-ranked Trojans to a 6-5 victory over fourth-ranked Stanford in the champioship game of the 1997 Nor Cal Water Polo Tournament on Sunday at deGuerre Pool.

Juric, a senior from Split, Croatia, scored two goals as the Trojans upped their season record to 11-3.

Stanford, which reached the championship with a 4-2 victory over top-ranked and previously unbeaten Pepperdine in the semi-finals on Sunday morning, fell to 12-4 on the season. The loss broke Stanford's seven game winning streak.

Andy Walburger scored twice to lead Stanford's attack.

In the third place game, Pepperdine defeated California, 9-6.
