The 10th-ranked United States-1 team of Barry and Tony Ciarelli (USC) won in the Round of 16 with a 21-17, 21-7 victory in 34 minutes over Norway's 12th-ranked Svein Solhaug and Jonas Tomter.

However, Barry and Ciarelli lost in the quarterfinals to Canada's 18th-seeded Garrett May and Sam Schachter in a 1-hour, 7-minute battle, 21-18, 19-21, 15-12.

Barry and Ciarelli won their pool with a 3-0 record to advance and, ultimately, tied for fifth.

Barry, a San Diego, has been a reserve for his first two seasons, but now is expected to assume the starting setter role previously held by AVCA National Player of the Year Kawika Shoji, who graduated in June.
