STANFORD, Calif. - The NCAA champion Stanford men's volleyball team has announced its fall schedule, which features the curtain-raising Cardinal & White Scrimmage, as well as a home match against perennial power Pepperdine.
The Cardinal will hold two public scrimmages, a reunion tournament, and two contests against collegiate teams. All are open to the public. Here is the 2010 fall schedule:
Friday, Sept. 24
Cardinal & White Scrimmage, at Burnham Pavilion, 4-6 p.m.
Note: This is the first training session and team event of the academic year, and a chance to see a strong seven-member freshman class take the court for the first time for Stanford.
Sunday, Oct. 24
Reunion Weekend Tournament, at Burnham Pavilion or Ford Center, 10:30 a.m.
Note: This is a chance for former Stanford players to get together with former teammates and players from different eras, and to meet the current Stanford team and coaching staff.
Friday, Oct. 29
Stanford vs. Pepperdine, at Ford Center, 3-7 p.m.
Note: Stanford takes on a team that finished No. 5 in the nation last year and features first-team All-American setter Kasey Crider.
Saturday, Nov. 13
Stanford vs. Pacific, at Burnham Pavilion, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., 2-4 p.m.
Note: Stanford takes on its Northern California rival in a matchup of MPSF teams.
Saturday, Nov. 20
Cardinal & White Scrimmage, at Burnham Pavilion, 9:30 a.m.-noon
Note: This will be the last chance to see the Cardinal compete before the regular season.
Stanford returns four starters and two first-team All-Americans -- outside hitter Brad Lawson and libero Erik Shoji -- from a team that went 24-6 and captured the NCAA championship in dominating fashion on home soil.
