Erik Shoji is two digs away from Stanford's single-season record.

April 7, 2009

STANFORD, Calif. - Check out this amazing play from Stanford men's volleyball player Erik Shoji (No. 1, white jersey, bottom of screen) from this video clip during Saturday's victory at UC San Diego. You've never seen anything like it.

That's Evan Romero on the serve and pancake dig, Shoji on the assist and Brad Lawson on the kill.

Shoji, by the way, is leading the nation in digs with 377, and is two away from Stanford's single-season record for digs set by three-time Olympian Scott Fortune in 1986.

Shoji, a freshman from Honolulu, should break the record during Stanford's huge matches against BYU, Friday and Saturday at Maples Pavilion (7 p.m.). Stanford (19-8) has an eight-match conference winning streak and has won 11 of 12 overall.
