COMING UP: Stanford Men's Volleyball (0-5, 0-2 MPSF) will host second ranked BYU (4-0, 2-0 MPSF) this weekend on the Farm. The Cardinal are seeking their first wins in the second week of MPSF play.
STANFORD ROUTED BY NO. 8 NORTHRIDGE AND NO. 6 UCSB: Cal State Northridge handed Stanford their first loss of the MPSF season with a 30-20, 30-23, 26-30, 30-22 win last Friday. Junior Jessie Meredith lead the Cardinal with 19 kills, followed by senior Matt Ceran and freshman Evan Romero, who added 12 kills each. However the Cardinal, who hit just .162, could not keep pace with Northridge, who hit .341. UC Santa Barbara (4-1,2-0 MPSF) handed Stanford their second loss on the weekend Saturday evening, winning 30-21, 30-25, and 30-21. Romero and Ceran again had solid performances with 13 kills and five digs each, however the Cardinal faced some set backs in their hitting game with the loss of Jesse Meredith due to an ankle injury in game two. Stanford hit .257 on the match, while UCSB hit .478.
ABOUT THE COUGARS: The Cougars are coming off of a solid weekend at home with a sweep against No. 3 UCLA 30-28, 30-22, 30-26 on Friday evening and 30-21, 30-23, 33-31 on Saturday evening. On Friday night, sophomore Yosleyder Cala led BYU with game-highs of 15 kills and a .789 hitting percentage. Juniors Ivan Perez (11 kills) and Russell Holmes (12 kills) combined for 23 of BYU's 51 total kills. Freshman Robby Stowell received game-high honors in digs with eight on the night. As a team, the Cougars hit .500 on the match. On Saturday evening Stowell lead BYU with a career-high 19 kills with five blocks while hitting .654. The Cougars hit .367 on the match.
UP NEXT: Following this weekend, Stanford will head to Fort Wayne, Indiana to face Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) both Friday and Saturday evening at 7:00pm.
